An Interview With Funquest
APA: What is the root/birth/foundation of your creativity… how did you get started?
Funquest: I was born and raised in Gifu, Japan where I was inspired by anime and manga which made me start the art. Over 8 years of New York City life, the people on the street walking by made me think that they are at the mercy of this recent media, social networks and mass information. From this point of view, I translate these people into my current art style with the multiple vivid colors and lines which I called "NOISE" art. Also "Mr. No Limit" is my imaginary hero who rescues and takes those people and anyone who need help to the peaceable world.
APA: What do you want people to obtain when they look at your work?
Funquest: I want them to get energy to live for their daily life as I put my soul into the arts with the positive message.
APA: What is your workflow? What is your creative process from start to finish?
Funquest: Walking around the street and referring people’s style including fashion, hair style etc I want to represent into my art piece. Sketching on a paper at a café and translating into the canvas. Put the color I come up with into the outlines.
APA: In the next decade what do you wish to accomplish with your creative gifts?
Funquest: My art as well as the messages I put my soul into becomes well known all around the world and I produce an event in connection with the artists not just the painters but also the musician, fashion designers etc. My theory of these artists are connected each other and can produce one big art.
APA: What do you do to keep going when you are not motivated or inspired to create?
Funquest: Simply I do not do or think anything. Plan to get out of the city or relax and enjoy the time with my friends and family. It eventually makes me happy and creative minds. When I’m not motivated, nothing goes right and cannot be creative. I always come up with an idea when I feel happy, enjoy the life and my mind clear.
APA: What most often inspires your work?
Funquest: I’m inspired by the people on the street as well as the legendary people who I think they are a hero.
APA: What is the best part about creating art?
Funquest: While sketching designs I suddenly come up on the paper at a café is the best part.
APA: What is your creative process like?
Funquest: As I mentioned above question, my art theme is mostly the people on the street. So I walk around and see them and come up the ideas with colors. I collaborate those ideas with the messages and put everything on the canvas.
